Employees Entering an Office

Employees Entering an Office

Challenge

The challenge was to build a very flexible model where different office layouts could be designed and added to test the behavior for people entering the office common space and sitting at either a hot desk, shared table, or casual seating.

The difficulty was to build one unique model that could fit any office layout.

Solution

The solution was built using AnyLogic with discrete-events for employee movement. The user could choose in an initial screen what office layout to use and run the simulation with it. It was also possible, following a set of instructions, to build a new office layout in a flexible area for a limitless amount of reorganizations.

Outcome

The project was a playground to sell different office ideas to companies, proving the best distribution of office positions to optimize occupancy in the open office concept. This can be used for existing offices, co-working spaces, or any kind of open office structure.
